Spring in Your Step

Spring has indeed arrived! For me, spring is all about new beginnings, sunshine, growth, and energy. After a long winter dealing with snow, shorter days, and some serious social restrictions, we are all ready for a little refresh.

Having an early spring is a blessing. While we are still under social restrictions, there are so many wonderful activities we can participate in and enrich our lives while doing them.

With spring comes longer days. Take a look around and you are sure to see so many more people outside going for walks with their children, friends taking an evening stroll together after dinner, bicycles touring down the parkway, and runners hitting their favorite outdoor routes. It fills my cup to see and feel the energy in the air with the outdoors coming back to life.

Gardening has been gaining popularity, and even more so with everyone needing to stick closer to home. It is a beautiful thing to see so many people taking a renewed interest in their properties and getting some great exercise at the same time. Did you know that by simply weeding and planting flowers can burn between 200-400 calories in an hour? Not only that, you are getting fresh air and soaking up some natural vitamin D! Win, win, win in my opinion.

When was the last time you did a little exploring? Spring is a great time to get outside and start to discover what your area has to offer in terms of outdoor activities. I’ve started a little tradition with my nephews by taking them on some “Auntie Wendy Field Trips”. Due to the restrictions at school, kids are missing out on so many adventures that we have seemingly taken for granted over the years. Spend a bit of time doing some research to find the hidden gems that are right at your doorstep. Travel websites and social media groups are a great place to start - challenge yourself to visit a secret hideaway and pack up a nice picnic lunch and head out on an adventure.

So now we have a choice. We can get upset and stick our heads in the sand and complain about our social restrictions, or we can use this situation to our advantage and get out and explore!

I for one am choosing the latter.

What is your next adventure going to be?
